Green Parking Hall of Fame! Walgreens in Logan Square

Often – though not recently, I use Fridays as the time to add an entry to my Bike Parking Hall of Shame.  Today, I’m posting on a variation on that theme – this time a Hall of Fame entry that includes decent bike parking AND electric car parking and recharging.  The Walgreens store  in Logan Square, at Milwaukee & Armitage Avenues has 1).  A decent bike rack located within 50 feet of the entrance that does not block pedestrian traffic, AND  2). Two designated spots for electric cars that include a credit-card activated charging station!

I could nit-pick a little and say that this is a narrow U-rack, but if I can get a big, tall, gangly bike like Oma in there, it’s probably going to work for most other bikes, so I give them a thumbs up here.

The more amazing thing was the electric car parking & charging station at the back of the lot!

Given that I’ve written about the Wicker Park Walgreens store that is just down the street from this one, and has horrible bike parking , and another one in Lakeview,   the company as a whole still can work on it’s bike-parking strategy. This  presence of this store, and the electric stations though, gives me hope that they might be figuring it out.  I’ve said before that any business in Chicago along Milwaukee Avenue  ( A major bike route through the city) that doesn’t try to provide secure parking facilities for cyclists is just giving away business.  Perhaps Walgreens is starting to figure it out.
