The photo above was taking during last month’s Palmer Square Kidical Mass Ride – a monthly bike ride for adults and kids that takes place year-round. Yep – we do have some hardy biking families in Chicago. The February ride was not quite so well attended as the March ride – probably because it was about 10 degrees (F) that day, but we still had a ride. There were three families that braved the cold temperatures for that chilly ride. Since the kids were riding in or on cargo bikes and not riding their own bikes that day, the route was shortened to a more direct path to a toasty bakery.
This month the Palmer Square Kidical Mass ride will be, as usual, on the 2nd Saturday of the month – April 14th. And the weather shouldn’t as chilly as it was in February. Gathering starts at 10:30am for an 11:00am ride. There will also be a new ‘Northside’ Kidical Mass ride on the 3rd Saturday of the month – April 28th. This ride will begin at Welles Park (2333 West Sunnyside Avenue). Check the discussion on the chainlink page that I linked to for more information on this ride, or the Chicago Kidical Mass facebook page. There has also been talk of a Hyde Park Kidical Mass ride – if you have more information about this ride, please let me know and I’ll add it to my events calendar and update this post.
Get your family on your bikes and come out and ride!
