Chicago’s Bike To Work Week Starts on Saturday!!

Chicago’s own Bike to Work Week 2011 kicks off this Saturday June 11th and runs through Friday June 17th.  The Bike Commuter Challenge is a big part of  the week’s activities.  Anyone can sign up their company to compete in the challenge and you compete against companies of similar size, etc. Anyone who rides their bike for any part of their commute to work any day between June 11th – June 17th counts towards the overall percentage of bike commuters for the week for that company. If you ride your bike to the Metra, bus or El, or part of the way to work one day of the week, it counts.   The companies with the highest percentage of employees who bike at least part of their commute one day during the week win – and all will be publicly recognized.

Bike Pit Stops
To help out with your bike commuting during Bike to Work Week, there will be specially marked “Bike Pit Stops” throughout the city and suburbs each day during the morning rush hour, serving coffee and snacks, etc.   No doubt there will be Cliff bars at every stop, along with bike mechanics, and bikey freebies.  Check out the Bike Pit Stop page on the Active Transportation Alliance’s web site for the most current pit stop list. There are stops throughout the suburbs and city, near Metra stops and on popular bike routes.

Bike Away From Work Events
Instead of hosting pit stops, other organizations are hosting afterwork bike events during the week.
