Chicago’s own Bike to Work Week 2011 kicked off this weekend and runs through Friday June 17th.  Find a way to ride your bike to work this week whether it’s by riding your bike to the Metra, bus or El, or riding part of the way to work. There will be bike pit stops throughout the city all week long, after-work bike events, and Friday morning pre-rally meet-ups so folks can ride together to the rally.

Bike Pit Stops
To help out with your bike commuting during Bike to Work Week, there will be specially marked “Bike Pit Stops” throughout the city and suburbs each day during the morning rush hour, serving coffee and snacks, etc. No doubt there will be Cliff bars at every stop, along with bike mechanics, and bikey freebies.  Check out the Bike Pit Stop page on the Active Transportation Alliance’s web site for the most current pit stop list. There are stops throughout the suburbs and city, near Metra stops and on popular bike routes.

Bike Away From Work Events
Instead of hosting pit stops, other organizations are hosting afterwork bike events during the week.

Bike To Work Rally – Friday June 17th 7:30-9:30am
Daley Plaza (1198 N. Clark Street)
The City of Chicago and Goose Island 312 are sponsoring the rally to celebrate Chicago’s commitment to being the best big city for bicycling with more than 110 miles of bike lanes, 50 miles of bike paths and 12,000 bike racks. Join more than a thousand fellow cyclists on Daley Plaza for a free t-shirt, breakfast, bike valet and much more.

Pre-rally Tweet-up Friday June 17th 7:00am
Yours truly will be hosting a tweet-up at the Caribou Coffee on 600 N. Kingsbury at 7:00am the morning of the rally, and from there we’ll all head out to to Daly Plaza around 7:30am. Come join me! There will be other tweet-ups that morning as well at the Caribou Coffee at  3240 N. Ashland and the one at 3025 N. Clark Street. Come ride with us!
