Chicago Women Biking & Brunching in Logan Square in April

This past weekend I was able to make it to the April brunch for our “Women Who Bike” group. I’ve missed the last two months and I was definitely in need of some friendly bike-centric conversations, and a mimosa! We all met up Sunday morning at Revolution Brewing Company in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. As you can see by this picture, we had a very good turnout – two full tables! You can also see that I can’t quite figure out how to keep my eyes open while one of the friendly wait-staff folks snapped our photo. We had new faces and familiar faces and lots of great conversation. I met a newcomer to Chicago – Sara,   who moved here from Pittsburgh.  She filled me on on the great bike advocacy organization in that city – Bike Pittsburgh – and the hard work they do to make their city more bike friendly. Sara moved to Chicago this past January -probably the worst time of year to move to Chicago, especially as a cyclist. We told her that she’s past the worst of it weather-wise, and that spring/summer is a really great time in this city.

Sara also showed off her Bern G2 helmet – it has sliding vents on top to let air in or out -keeping your head cool or warm as the season requires.  I’ve got a Bern helmet as well, a different model, and I love it, but those vents are kind cool.

As always, we spent almost as much time hanging around with our bikes as we did with our food. We kept talking and looking at bikes, and a few people headed off to hit the vintage stores with Dottie from Let’s Go Ride A Bike.

I got some pictures of a couple of different city bikes while was was outside chatting with everyone as well. Megan from Me-Go has a lovely Gary Fisher Simple City that I’ll write more about later this week, and Ash recently purchased a vintage Murray bike with an automatic hub! Check back for more pictures!
