Cargo Bike Week : It’s Friday and Time For The Madsen Bucket Bike

While the Bakfiets and the Long John style of cargo bikes haul cargo in front of the rider, the Madsen bucket bike stretches out the frame a little and puts the cargo behind the rider.

A Madsen bike at a recent Kidical Mass ride that just moments before had cargo, but the kids were switching between cargo bikes between stops.

The 40-gallon bucket on the back of Madsen cargo bike will haul your kids, your groceries, their toys, your bags, all up to about 600 pounds or so. Like other cargo bikes, it’s ready to take you and your family anywhere you want to go.

A blue Madsen was also at the last Kidical Mass ride – full of kids and cargo

The bike comes with removable seating and seatbelts for 4!

Check out the  family biking blog on tumblr – One Less Minivan they’ve got a Madsen cargo bike.

If you want to see some of these Madsen bikes in action, come to one of the monthly Kidical Mass bike rides we have here in Chicago – there are usually 2 or 3 that show up. You can read about the August ride here, in my earlier post about the ride, or just check out the facebook page for the Chicago Kidical Mass group.

And of course, you can also swing by the Cargo Bike Roll Call on Monday September 12th. It’s going to be a blast! To quote one of the organizers, Steve Vance:

It’s for people of all ages who want to see the variety of cargo and family bikes as well as cargo setups. Think of a local lowrider or antique car show where owners pop the hood and show off. You don’t need a cargo bike to attend.

I hope to see you there!
