Bike Parking Awesomeness – Checking in on The Wicker Park Bike Corral

If you follow bike or transportation news in Chicago you know that back in July Chicago got its first on-street bike corral in Wicker Park. Right on Milwaukee Avenue, just south of the 6-corner intersection of Damen, North  and Milwaukee Avenues sits this orange metal beauty that even on a rainy Sunday afternoon was quite busy.

Wicker Park on-street bike parking

The  The Wicker Park-Bucktown (WPB) Special Service Area (SSA) (a business improvement district) , along with 1st Ward Alderman Moreno, and CDOT Bicycle Parking Program Manager Christopher Gagnon, worked together to make this happen. The SSA also purchased 20 specially-designed U-Racks and donated them to CDOT to place around the neighborhood. I finally got the opportunity to showcase Oma next to one this past weekend and get some pictures of all the orange-ness that now signals handy bike-parking in Wicker Park. Thank you!

You can read more about the bike racks on Grid Chicago.  Or just ride up to Wicker Park and see them yourself!
