Bike Event: Ukrainian Village Bike Summit – 4/14/2011

I’m taking a moment here to help spread the word about the upcoming Ukrainian Village Neighborhood Association meeting on Thursday, April 14th, 2011 that will focus exclusively on all things bikes in Ukrainian Village.  UVNA is a small association in a geographically small neighborhood in Chicago, but  the number of cyclists-residents in the neighborhood has grown over the last few years, based on the bike traffic as well as the number of bikes locked up out in front of residential buildings.
Disclaimer: I’ve recently become more involved in the organization, and the board actually suggested this bike summit as a great way to reach out to the cyclists in the neighborhood and address any issues that might need to be discussed.  You KNOW I was  immediately on board with the idea.

Meeting Agenda:

  • Bike to Work Week 2011 (Chicago – June 11-17th) – What can we do?
    • Partner with WPB on a commuter station
    • Create our own commuter station
  • Discuss ways we can partner with WPB or any other associations in our ward (32nd) to support bike infrastructure spending by our Alderman
  • Discuss bike thefts in the are and work with adjoining neighborhood associations to create neighborhood notifications along with the usual ones to chainlink, stolen bike registry, bike bloggers, etc
  • Discuss the planning of an Active Trans Social

At least one member of the Wicker Park Bucktown SSA (WPB) Bike Committee will be attending the meeting and hopefully a representative of the Active Transportation Alliance as well.

Date & Time: Thursday, April 14th, 2011 6:30pm

Place: The Hoyne Wesleyan Church, 900 N. Hoyne Avenue
