Bike Economics: The Costs & Benefits of Bike Parking vs Car Parking

Elly Blue of the Zine Taking the Lane, columnist for Grist, Momentum and former managing editor of BikePortland.org recently published a 4-part series on Grist.org about the economics of biking.  Great great articles, great writing, and part 4 focuses on a topic near and dear to the heart of yours truly.  Elly makes a straightforward case for biking by pointing out the economics of bike parking:

  • Installing and maintaining one bike rack/space is infinitely less expensive than building and maintaining one car parking space
  • Bike parking spaces are better at generating revenue than car parking spaces
