The Ding Ding Let’s Ride family did a little road trip last week across Iowa and Nebraska, and on the way back home we stopped in Ames Iowa to join a  Kidical Mass ride! We drove out on rainy morning and met everyone in Brookside Park, where they meet every month.  It’s a great park with trails, a playground, and great bridges too.

Once we had our bikes unloaded, and introductions made, we all headed out of the park and towards the historic neighborhood area of downtown Ames.

Our host looks even better with her eyes open (sorry) but this is great view of her lovely yellow bike and the neighborhood.

We rode by one of two Little Free Libraries that you can find in Ames Iowa.

You”ll note the other orange Yuba Mundo in the below photo – one of the families on the ride had just purchased it.  Seems it’s just not a Kidical Mass ride these days unless you have multiple Yuba Mundos along!

We rode to the heart of downtown Ames,  for some hot chocolate at Cafe Diem – a really great local coffee shop.   Great downtown area , and the drivers were friendly and stopped to let our little bike parade cross the street.

All our bikes lined up outside the coffee shop.

The hot chocolate here comes in two temperatures - so the kids can order 'warm' chocolate for better drinkability.

We really enjoyed the civic tour and family ride in Ames, and we hope we can stop by again.  I took some video and hope to have that up online soon.  After the ride Mr D., Little D and I rode around Ames a bit more, checked out the bike shop, and rode all the trails back in Brookside Park.  Thanks for a great day Ames Kidical Mass!

I would have liked to see a side-by-side photo of that Yuba locked up with dental floss vs. your locked up like Fort Knox. It’s sometimes difficult to remember that there are places where people won’t steal anything just because they can.

How true, how true. I was thinking that you would be the person to notice that particular photo.

As the dental floss/new Mundo owner, I have to admit that Samantha did give me some friendly advice on the wisdom of upgrading my lock which I plan to do soon!

Great, fun, event. First time I heard of. Kidical Mass. I have been in a critical mass before and that was fun. Great that the kids and families can support cycling too.
