A New Bike Lock for My Omafiets

When I bought my new bike I planned on getting a new lock too – wanted to keep my U-lock for my mountain bike.  I did a little research and wrote about my findings in this post. Since I knew the Dutch Bike Company carried the ABUS brand locks that I decided I would purchase, I decided to buy one when I picked up my bike.  Unfortunately they didn’t have the big ole ABUS Granit City Chain X-Plus model in stock that I wanted, so I had to order it and wait.

The friendly guys at Dutch Bike Company-Chicago gave me a call a couple of days ago to say that they had some more chain locks in stock, which gave me a great reason to be out riding in the sunshine yesterday when it was so beautiful. I headed over to the store and picked up the lock. It weighs in at about 5lbs – a bit of a beast.

The patented Power Cell technology locks the chain directly into the lock body, which is in cased in a steel sheath. This lock also incorporates Abus Patented X-Plus cylinder technology for its highest picking protection and is a must for any enthusiast, or person that lives their life with their bike by their side. Abus recommends this lock for mopeds, motorcycles, as well as bicycles.

Today I rode home with it in my pannier – but it should wrap nicely around my seat-post.  It’s definitely easier to lock and unlock than my Kryptonite U-lock, though not any lighter.

My Omafiets came with a wheel lock as well (Axa Defender) so I think Oma should be fairly secure while parking in Chicago.
