A Lovely Evening for A Concert in Millennium Park

On Wednesday nights throughout the summer the Grant Park Symphony performs their Grammy-nominated concert series in Millennium Park. It’s an amazing venue, with amazing musicians and to top it off it’s FREE! And for those of us in the city, we can easily ride our bikes to the show instead of hopping on a train to Ravinia ( Sorry CSO).We’ve got a few friends with whom we try to meet up with a few Wednesday nights every summer. Wine, cheese, tasty food, good music, and the spectacular Chicago skyline – what more could you want?

I stopped by Just Grapes for some wine, and Pastoral in the French Market for sandwiches, cheese, and fruit. The wine went in my bike bag, and I looped the bag with the rest of the goodies over my handlebars (Oh how I could use my new bike right now!) and off I went to the park.

Note to cyclists: there are bike racks at the back of the park in front of the trees that line the Lurie Garden (next photo). I walk or ride my bike up the ramp near Michigan and Randolph and park my bike there. I tried to snap a picture of my locked up bike, but it was too dark for my camera to get a decent picture. There are also bike racks along Michigan Avenue, as well as Randolph Street, and you can rent a bike lock at the Millennium Park bike station. They will not let you bring your bike onto the grass next to you.

The new Modern Wing of the Art Institute offered up some dramatic straight lines to all the curves of Millennium Park.

And as the concert came to an end, and the city lit up around us, the view was, as always, spectacular. I have to say that I’ve lived in this city a long time, and I still love seeing the city lit up at night.
